Desired Results Developmental Profiles (DRDPs)

About DRDPs

A tool called the Desired Results Developmental Profile (DRDP) is used to assess the development of children. The DRDP consists of:
  • Assessed within 60 days of enrollment & every 6 months
  • Parent’s input is a necessary component of this assessment
  • Assessment outcomes are used to plan and conduct age and developmentally appropriate activities for children
The DRDP assessment tool is based on naturalistic observation; our teachers complete the instrument by continually observing children as they participate in typical activities and routines and then documenting their progress. In addition to direct observation, we invite family members to share their observations about the child. We are excited when families share their observations, as it is particularly useful for those skills the child might not demonstrate routinely in the educational setting. Families have repeated opportunities to observe their child over time and across settings as they interact with toys, other children, and adults. As a result, families’ descriptions of their child’s behavior in the home or in community settings will add to our teacher’s knowledge about the child’s behavior across settings and will help the teachers make more confident ratings.

The LOCDC staff use the DRDP assessment tool and observations of your child to plan curriculum for our classrooms. This helps build on the child’s skill levels and confidence. At our site, this assessment instrument is completed twice a year on each child enrolled in the program. In addition, parent/teacher conferences are held after each assessment completion to share the results with each family. We look forward to this time together to share all the exciting things your child is accomplishing and create an individualized action plan to help best support your child in the program and at home.

Parent Surveys

Annually we distribute the Desired Results Parent Survey to parents, collect the surveys from parents and analyze the results. The parent survey results are used to plan and conduct activities to help parents support their child’s learning and development and to meet the family’s needs. Additionally, the results and analysis of the parent survey are used as part of the program’s annual self-evaluation process.
